Publisher Synopsis
Praise for Ship Breaker"Bacigalupi's future earth is brilliantly imagined and its genesis anchored in contemporary issues...The characters are layered and complex, and their almost unthinkable actions and choices seem totally credible. Vivid, brutal, and thematically rich, this captivating title is sure to win teen fans for the award-winning Bacigalupi." --Booklist (starred review)"Bacigalupi (The Windup Girl) makes a stellar YA debut with this futuristic tale of class imbalance on the Gulf Coast...Bacigalupi's cast is ethnically and morally diverse, and the book's message never overshadows the storytelling, action-packed pacing, or intricate world-building." --Publishers Weekly (starred review) Read more...

From what was once known as America, rises a new civilization with the rich at the top and the poor at the bottom. The rich people employ the poor folks for a less than meager salary. One of them is a boy by the name of Nailer, no more than 15 years old, who has to work non-stop to make quota. If he doesn't make quota, he most likely won't see another whole week. Then he and his friend Pima run across a rich person's ship which is destroyed. Everyone's dead but one girl... and Nailer has to decide whether to kill her and get rich or save her. Which does he do? Read Shipbreaker to find out!
